Notice to Mariners No. 286 of 2024 – Port of Gippsland Lakes

Notices to Mariners

The following navigation notice is published for general information.

Australia – Victoria

Notice to Mariners No.286 of 2024

Port of Gippsland Lakes

Cunninghame Arm – Lakes Entrance

Lakes Entrance Fisherman’s Cooperative Jetty and Seawall Works

DATE:  3rd July 2024

PREVIOUS NOTICE:  N/A

DETAILS:

Mariners are advised that construction works will commence at Lakes Entrance Fisherman’s Cooperative (LEFCOL) in Cunninghame Arm Lakes Entrance on Wednesday 3rd July 2024.

The works will be completed in a 3-stage program.

Stage 1 upon commencement, minor repairs will be completed on the Northern fish unloading jetty.

Stage 2 the Southern fish unloading jetty will be demolished and removed, before being fully rebuilt.

Stage 3 the undermined seawall along the front of the LEFCOL unloading area will be dredged and large, revetment rocks will be placed into position under the wall before backfilling and void sealing works are completed.

Several vessels and barges will be used for the duration of the works, and seaward access to LEFCOL and the Fuel Jetty may be affected at times.

Works vessels will be frequently transiting through Cunninghame Arm from the LEFCOL site to the Gippsland Ports Bullock Island Wharf and Lakes Entrance Depot.

During the dredging, a small tipper barge will transit between the work site across Bullock Island Channel to the sand spit directly to the east of the LEFCOL site to dump any sand removed from under the wall.

At night, barges in the works area will be lit with yellow flashing lights on the most seaward extremities.

Mariners are advised to navigate with extra precaution while works are being completed. Works are expected to be completed by mid-December 2024.

Works vessels will be monitoring VHF Channel 16 at all times.

For information on access to the fuel jetty or unloading facilities, please contact LEFTRADE on (03) 51 551 688.
