Mariners are advised that the 2024 Major Buoy Exchange in the Port of Corner Inlet and Port Albert will commence on Monday 6th May 2024. Weather permitting the exchange should take 4 days to complete.
The buoy exchange will be carried out by the Gippsland Ports Tug “Albatross” and Dive Support Vessel “Shearwater”. Each vessel will maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch16 for vessel-to-vessel communications when necessary.
Mariners are requested to notify the buoy exchange vessels of their arrivals or departures through the Corner Inlet Channels or Port Albert Bar and travel at slow speeds to pass at a safe distance during exchange activities.
The Buoys to be exchanged are;
- Corner Inlet No.4 Port Lateral Mark Buoy
- Corner Inlet No.6 Port Lateral Mark Buoy
- Corner Inlet No.5 Starboard Lateral Mark Buoy
- Port Albert Fairway Buoy
- Port Albert Outer Starboard Lateral Mark Buoy.
The positions and light Characteristics of the Corner Inlet Buoys will not be changed. The positions of the Port Albert buoys may have a slight position change but light characters will remain the same. The new positions of the Port Albert Buoys will be promulgated in the follow up Notice to Mariners which will be issued on completion of the buoy exchange.
