McLoughlins Beach Jetty

Location: McLoughlins Beach

Background

Last rebuilt in 1985, the McLoughlins Beach Jetty is approaching end of life.

The Victorian Government, under the State Budget 2022-23, committed $18 million to deliver critical works on local piers and jetties, including the rebuild of McLoughlins Beach Jetty. A further $100,000 has been provided by the Victorian Government for the McLoughlins Beach Jetty project under the Recreational Fishing Grants Program.

The jetty is valued by the local community and will be rebuilt by Gippsland Ports to meet the needs of recreational users.

The new jetty, constructed from Fibre Reinforced Composite (FRP) material, will provide a greatly improved user experience. It will be wider, more accessible and feature additional space on the jetty head.

Project Status (April 2024)

Gippsland Ports is currently experiencing delays with the delivery of Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials for the McLoughlins Beach Jetty replacement project. Project construction will not commence in March 2024 as previously indicated to the community.

Gippsland Ports is actively working to resolve these supply issues and is committed to progressing the project as quickly as possible. In the interim, Gippsland Ports will endeavour to maintain public access to the existing jetty.

Planning for replacement of the jetty, designed to be built from long lasting FRP, is complete. Commencement of construction is now contingent on the supply of materials for the project.

Specific timing is currently being confirmed, and a further update will be provided to the community at the earliest opportunity.

For all project enquiries, please contact Gippsland Ports via these options.

Project Status (February 2024)

Project planning and the majority of approvals have been completed – formal agreements with the two land managers (Parks Victoria & DEECA) are nearing completion.

Detailed engineering design has progressed throughout 2023, under a detailed design and materials supply contract with Sustainable Infrastructure Systems. (manufacturing of the FRP components is underway).

Onsite construction works are now expected to commence in mid-March with the establishment of a fenced site compound.

So far as is practicable, Gippsland Ports will minimise impact to the site and maintain access to the jetty until pile driving commences.

The old jetty will remain in place during the majority of the pile driving phase of the works.

Jetty construction will be undertaken by Gippsland Ports, working in collaboration with Carter Marine Group (who are providing pile driving services).

For all project enquiries, please contact Gippsland Ports via these options.
