Marine Safety Act 2010
Section 211(1)(b)
NOTICE CONTROLLING NAVIGATION IN THE VICINITY OF WORKS
Gippsland Ports Committee of Management, as the declared waterway manager for the waters of the Local Port of Gippsland Lakes, makes the following notice under section 211(1)(b)(i) of the Marine Safety Act 2010 (Vic) (the Act).
Following the completion of the Bullock Island bridge replacement works, the temporary “No Boating Zone” between the Fishing Club and the Gippsland Ports Depot in Bullock Island Channel, Lakes Entrance has been removed. The area will revert back to a 5 knot zone and small vessels and paddle craft will once again be able to transit between North Arm and Cunninghame Arm under the bridge.
Vessel operators are reminded that the area is subject to a 5 knot speed limit at all times. The channel is shallow, narrow and height restricted. The maximum clearance under the bridge is 1.9m at LAT (Lowest Astronomical Tide) and is therefore only suitable for small vessels.
Vessel operators are advised to continue to use the main channel where possible and only to use the Bullock Island Channel when weather or traffic conditions in the main channel present a safety risk.
This notice has effect from 7:30am on 24 August 2023
